I have been charmed by the magic of being cared for and boosted alongside a group of creative others in a health-giving space, and a month later, my writing is still flourishing under the spell.

Writing Retreat in Greece

This is an opportunity to work with writing coach and mentor Sarah Bullen and bestselling author and life coach Kate Emmerson. This is an unforgettable summer writing journey that will get your book on track. Together we travel the journey of memory and dive deep into the craft of writing, have a lot of fun and join a community of international writers. A group of writers gather every year with us in the mythical town of Skala Eressos on the island Lesbos - spiritual home of the writer's muse Sappho. Many stay for both the retreat and the residency. Your base is a simple, serene, family-run B&B with balconies overlooking the sea in the laid-back, friendly coastal village of Skala Eressos The Retreat is a structured writing workshop for writers of all levels who want to tell their own story or write a non-fiction. The course is a daily combination of technical writing techniques, working through your personal and writing blocks, finding ways to access your memories and plan your story. This is ideal if you are writing a memoir, biography, non-fiction or e-course and you need to understand how to structure a publishable book. Both novices and experienced writers are welcome. ****************************************************** If there is a story inside you and you want to write it - then you are in the right place. Sometimes it just takes some clear direction, and an understanding on how to structure a book to take you from having a dream of writing to becoming a published author. Let's walk that journey together. The writing is your job, my job is to show you how, to hold you accountable and to find your best book."

I have so much clarity and belief in myself. It was just a magical experience in a tiny village with writing support and clear direction and feedback. I made friends for life.

If you want to write, you definitely can’t go wrong with Kate and Sarah. I was so happy there was clear course content and it took us down the path of planning and writing. Finally I am getting out of my head and writing my book

A really wonderful retreat, I went there with one project in mind & came out having written a quarter of a memoir instead. The hosts are AMAZING & the energy of the group was so encouraging, inspiring and uplifting. I have changed for the better since the retreat and attribute these positive changes to the wonderful time I had here."

"I came to Greece not knowing exactly what to expect. I started tinkering with my story over the years and never imagined that I would put it down in any tangible format or structure. With Sarah’s unyielding insight, knowledge and guidance and Kate’s support and ability to unlock deep emotion and memory, the retreat was a turning point for me. It helped set me on the path to finish my first draft within 6 months. The overwhelming support from all the writers, each with their own beautiful story and soul, was the best takeaway. Not to mention, the magical setting and the quiet, intoxicating atmosphere. x"

I loved it all. The place, the people, the experience, the sea, the lessons and the succinct and practical way to write a book. Sappho was inspired by the same sea and sun 2000 years ago and that touched my heart and words.

I have attended a number of retreats since I believe it is one of the most generous gifts you can give yourself. When I booked this specific retreat, I had no idea that the gift would far exceed any of my expectations. The beauty of the location cannot be described in mere words, the energy that vibrates from the core of Skala Erresos connects to ones soul and magically unlocks creativity you never realised you had hidden deep inside. Sarah and Kate both hold the space in such a light and enabling manner that the magic unfolds naturally. When it comes to food, the restaurants lazily spread across the shoreline, serve meals dazzling ones tastebuds and the ocean enfolds ones body with the freshness that only water from the earth can offer. The opportunity created to meet and engage a group of amazing people from across the globe only adds to the richness of the experience, leaving one with friends who often see more of your soul than people close to you ever get a glimpse of. Personally, the retreat is certainly one of the most memorable experiences of this life. I unreservedly recommend it for all souls willing to dance to the rhythm of synchronicity.

Bonita Field, South Africa

if you can only go on one writing retreat in your lifetime, this is the one to choose. Sarah is a truly inspired coach, seconded by Kate. They create a caring, trusting atmosphere conducive to making progress on your own writing. A truly galvanizing experience!

There is a special magic that happens in the little village. Creativity is emboldened, a gentle release is inevitable and all anxiety seeps away, allowing and encouraging you to write your book. I was supported and held by the professional and talented partnership that is Sarah and Kate. They are an extraordinary team with heart and backbone and intellect and lots of experience with publishing. If you are considering a writing retreat don't think twice.

The course structure finally let me realise my book can be achieved with structure and the framework Sarah worked out with me. It taught me how to get from idea to a book. I loved writing all afternoon in my room overlooking the sea and all the expert speakers who came to give us their tips and advice

Julian Cowburn, UK, 2018

I just completed the Memoir retreat in Skala Eressos. It was an incredible experience, powerful tools for driving the narrative, perfect combination of workshop, coaching & vacation, quality & professional standards in both preparation for the workshop and in follow-up after workshop had ended. I highly recommend it and look forward to working with Sarah again.

I attended this retreat in June/July 2019 and have never been on a more profound experience in my life. Kate and Sarah unlocked my creativity with their gentle guidance and their expert knowledge. It is more than just a writers retreat - it is a journey into discovery of self and your potential. I highly recommend this retreat to any one who wishes to write something or even just want to explore their own thoughts. Swimming to the famous rock was a highlight for me and I overcame my limiting beliefs in a very safe environment. Give yourself this gift at least once in your life.

Mary-Joe Emde, South Africa

The world needs more authentic stories — everyone should attend! Loved the length of more left brain work in the morning and heart focussed work in evening.

Surpassed all expectations, delivered more than I hoped.I had an idea of what a writer's retreat should give. I had an idea of what I would experience. I also had a lot of expectations. Sarah Bullen's Writer's Retreat delivered on all of those, but also delivered an additional connection which was totally unexpected. It's hard to describe the full extent of it. All I can say is if you ever wanted to do a writer's retreat, if you cannot find time or struggled to hone your craft by yourself, if daily life is messing up your goals, GO AND DO THIS RETREAT!

Absolutely fantastic experience on the…Absolutely fantastic experience on the writing retreat with Sarah! 5 days of blissful writing, learning techniques from the best, sharing with an awesome group of ladies! Beautiful setting and lovely place for writing

It took me 42 published books before I attended a writing retreat. I wasn't sure what to expect but wasn't disappointed. I learnt a huge amount on many levels— from the actual structure of book writing, seeing things from the publishers' viewpoint, and self-marketing, intermingled with some shamanic practices. Loved interacting with the other writers and hearing their stories. I wish I'd done this workshop before.by Ann Gadd

Everything was lovely, great group, Got valuable feedback, Sarah is very knowledgeable and personable. I enjoyed the experience and would do it again  by Cesar

This was an excellent event! I learned a lot, met some fabulous other writers (whose ideas and talent was so inspiring), and got a real kick start on the process of writing my book! Sarah was fantastic. She held the vision of the group, engaged us, was fun and involved. I highly recommend her as a mentor, teacher and retreat leader. Cat Glennie

This was the most amazing time -  the serenity of the island - a place to write/reflect/allow yourself to be inspired, the birthplace of Sappho, simple/outstanding Greek cuisine, ability to swim in the ocean everyday, take hikes at sundowners, come away with a solid plan for writing/publishing a book, bond with other writers. The course served almost as a week-long therapy session for me - a therapeutic getaway on a beautiful island."

Would totally recommend this retreat to others….! I would say ‘Come on the retreat with an open heart and an open mind.  Come to learn how to write your book and leave with new skills and probably a new understanding of yourself.  Getting away to the peaceful and tranquil setting that is Skala Eressos, is worth the time and the money – I would never have got the full benefit of the retreat if I had done not gone away from my home and normal life.’

This has the perfect holding space to get me started on a book that has been sitting in my head and heart for years. I doubt I would have had the courage to star without this space

Ruth Parry, UK ‘22
A wonderful balance pf pressure and fun, downtime play and focussed writing. Very clearly tells you and demonstrates tricks of the trade. A deeply absorbing experience, careful of the individual and their needs, while fostering community and shared difficulties and laughter

Megan de Beyer ‘22
The wisdom, experience and amazing energy of the Sarah Kate combo is incredible. A wonderful team to motivate me to write my next book. They create an interesting and solid container which attracts amazing people from around the world to their carefully chosen location.I’m a fan and for the first time, a groupie!

If you are looking for a place to share your work /writing  with some experienced inspiring writers, Kate and Sarah are your girls. Amazing girls who are true to their craft. My ten days on the residency were filled with self discovery, time to write and learn much-needed techniques from experts from other parts of the world. I made some lifelong new friendships.

Sue Adams ‘22
I would recommend this 100 times over. Sarah and Kate your combination of expertise, enthusiasm and incredibly slick, well organised retreat made this experience memorable. Being given the space to write, while being encouraged, coached and assured, allowed me t develop as a writer. And as far as the Greek Island experience it was unsurpassed — amazing food, a village with great vibe, fabulous swimming and interesting excursions. It couldn't get better.

Andrew McEvoy, Australia ’22
Go and do it! Learn to write. Destress in a nurturing environment and do something completely different. It’s as much about “you-time” as it is about writing. It’s real life non-fiction. I loved learning how much I didn’t know about writing a book. You two are like peaches and cream — hand in a glove.

Millie McEvoy, Australia ’22
It doesn't matter the level of experience you have going into it, you will learn something. I was daunted entering the retreat by my lack of experience and not working on a book, but I learned things I wouldn't have learned had I not attended!

Sue Routledge ’22
This has been a life-changing experience for me. Transformation, as my card said. Kate and Sarah are an excellent team and I always felt valued and supported. Especially those who find retreats
daunting, this was spot on.

Suzanne Casamento, USA ’22
I highly recommend this retreat and residency experience if you’d like to receive inspiring instruction, sharing and exploration in a beautiful setting where the energy is perfect for creativity and writing.
I loved the balance of learning, sharing and exploring and also that there was no pressure if I needed to sit out an activity. Thank you for a magical experience and I will gladly follow you all over the world! Fantastic job! Lots of love.

Barry Gilder, Syria ’22
Sun, sea, quaint village, wonderful restaurants. Lots of inspiring and quiet writing spaces, Warm supportive facilitators.

Mary Joe ’22
Transformative and life-changing and you get to write a book with these amazing mentors and guides. Thanks Sarah and Kate for allowing me to be part of so many people’s beautiful journeys. You guys and in my heart forever.

Reneva Fourie Syria ’22
It’s a warm, inspiring environment for beginners and experienced writers alike. It was perfectly structured and where more personal writing time was required, the flexibility in this regard was appreciated!

Alex Ruczaj, United Kingdom ‘22
Just WOW - it may also depend on who your cohort is-just a little-but wow I lucked out! I feel reborn. Renewed! Rediscovered! Nurturing environment, fun, focussed and in an amazing setting! Thank you!
